Veterans Day Parade PDF Print E-mail

Members of the North DeKalb Republican Women participated again this year in the Veteran's Day Parade in Downtown Atlanta. It was a beautiful sunny day for a parade and there were many people lining the streets and cheering for our Veterans, Joe Burton and Zeola Bart-Addison.  The parade Grand Marshal was Lt. General Russell  L. Honore, Commanding General, First Army, Fort Gillem , Georgia . NDRW had two convertibles in the parade thanks to Bea Affleck and Carl Franklin. NDRW salutes all the Veterans for their military service and their contributions to freedom in this great nation and throughout the world. DeKalb GOP Presidential Preview BBQ a Success PDF Print E-mail

L. Oliverio, 3rd Vice Chairman Dekalb GOP

The DeKalb County Republican Party held its annual barbecue on Friday August 24, 2007 at the Elks Lodge in Tucker.  Approximately100 people attended the event, which featured a plentiful buffet in a comfortable air-conditioned setting.  The event was successful because of the tireless efforts of volunteers who devoted many hours to making the event an enjoyable experience.  Approximately $3,000 was raised for the DeKalb GOP by this annual get together.

DeKalb GOP Chairman Jamie Sibold welcomed everyone to the event, and the invocation was provided by Gene Wise.  State GOP Chairman Sue Everhart addressed the crowd about her efforts in leading the State party.  Dick Williams of the Dunwoody Crier was the keynote speaker of the event and provided an informative breakdown of the Presidential race in addition to touching on many local issues.  A local issue that warranted much discussion was the funding obligation of Grady Hospital by Fulton and DeKalb Counties .  The keynote addressed also included comparisons of positions of the current Presidential candidates.  Several questions from the audience helped illustrate the issues that are on the minds of grass roots Republicans as the 2008 election approaches.  Congressman Tom Price of Georgia ’s Sixth Congressional District also addressed the gathering and provided an update on activities in Congress, in addition to taking several questions from the audience.

Representatives from several Presidential campaigns were present to distribute literature and promote their candidates to the attendees.  Some attendees were drawn to the event by the chance to promote their Presidential candidate, and the DeKalb County Republican Party is appreciative of their financial support by purchasing tickets for the event.  A Presidential straw poll was conducted and support was divided relatively evenly among those candidates that had a campaign presence at the BBQ.  Many meaningful debates took place both prior to, during, and after the presentation about the distinctions among those in the field of Presidential candidates.

Giuliani with My Daughter and Granddaughter

My daughter, Jenny (also a member of NDRW) and granddaughter, Kayla, had the pleasure of meeting with Rudy Giuliani today at the Town Hall meeting.

Jenny said Rudy continued to hold Kayla’s hand as he answered questions from the press. I understand that Ray and Jean Warren were also there and they tell me that Rudy was well received.

Here are a couple of pictures. Enjoy!
