Commentary on 2007 State Convention PDF Print E-mail

Greetings to all my fellow Republicans,

Well  another  state  party  convention  is  behind  us  and  I  must say it was run very smoothly. We were actually done by 2:15 PM on Saturday May 19, 2007.
Off year conventions generally do not generate the controversy that election year ones do, and this one was no exception.
The highlight of  the  convention had to be the speech given by Gov. Sonny Perdue. A 15 minute  hypothetical of the (GOP) "family insurance business" using this past session of the General Assembly as a backdrop.
Slowly, carefully, methodically the Governor went through the many financial demands  facing  the  hypothetical  family insurance business. His illustration of the hard  choices  facing  our  great  state  were  articulately  described as having to fund "college for  the kids, retirement for the business owners and healthcare for the employees" of the company. When the Governor was finished with his speech, I felt as though the Speaker of the House (sitting in the audience) had shrunk to about three and a half feet tall.

A masterful speech delivered by the real deal.
Kudos  go  to  the  convention  organizers  and  the  convention Chairman Randy Evans   for a  first  rate  convention. Congratulations go to Sue Everhart, our new state  party chairwomen. Let's all  role up  our  sleeves   and   get to work helping her keep Georgia a "red" state.
Regards from your Chairman,

James "Jamie" Sibold

This forum meets every Saturday morning from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM. We have been meeting for forty seven years. The purpose of this town hall type meeting is to discuss current political affairs and to have speakers discuss subjects such as Education, Transportation, the Judicial System, and Dekalb County. Our Speakers include Department leaders from the State Government and others. We also hear from our elected representatives. During the election cycle we have an opportunity to meet and to question the candidates for most of the political races. This forum is open to everyone and is non-partisan. Each year we hold a Lincoln Day Dinner with an outstanding speaker. Knowledge of DeKalb County and our State are the goals we hope to achieve.
